A lot of useful functions have been added to the Start key in Windows 7
I often ignored the Windows key on my keyboard unless I wanted to open the Start menu quickly, but there are lots of other uses for it, especially if you have Windows 7.
This version of Windows lets you switch to the first 10 programs in the Taskbar by pressing the Windows key and the number that corresponds to a program’s position in the Taskbar. Alternatively, you can cycle through icons on the Taskbar with the Windows key and T.
The combination of the Windows key and Tab shows the Aero 3D equivalent of the Alt and Tab program switcher. This shows a preview of each program so you can see what they are doing.
The Windows key and F opens a window that can be used to search for documents and folders.
A full list of Windows shortcuts can be found on Microsoft's Windows site.
