Two programs open up a world of ebooks to read on a Kindle - and it's all legal
I have been using a Kindle Keyboard for around six months and have been very pleased with it. I have discovered that it is possible to read ebooks that haven’t come directly from Amazon by using the free ebook manager program Calibre to convert them.
This software can convert ebooks saved in the Epub format into the Mobi format that the Kindle can read.
Although Calibre can also convert PDF files to the Mobi format, I have found the PDF-to-Epub software useful, although this does cost $40 (£25).
These two programs have enabled me to download and convert thousands of free books legally to the mobi format. To convert a book in Calibre, right-click on it and select Convert Books and then Convert individually.
The output format is set at the top right of the app. Select Mobi and set the other options as your prefer. Click on OK and the book will be converted.
