Autoplay has been known to turn itself off, but turning it back on is easy to do
Q I find the most convenient method to transfer images on to my Vista PC is to use the Autoplay wizard, which used to appear after placing a memory card into my computer’s reader slot. However, Autoplay no longer works for this – nothing happens when I try what used to work.
How can I restore Autoplay so that it pops up when I insert a memory card? I am certain there is nothing wrong with the slot.

A We have come across a few situations where Autoplay has become disabled without the user’s request. Fortunately, it’s easy to rectify. In Vista, click Start followed by Control Panel, then Hardware and Sound and finally AutoPlay.
If it’s not ticked already, click to place a tick in the ‘Use AutoPlay for all media and devices’ box, then scroll down the Media/Devices list below to view and manage how Autoplay handles various media/device types and events – just open the dropdown menus to the right of these to choose different options. Click OK when done.
