Simple clear advice in plain English

Can I use ActiveX on an Android phone to see my home CCTV?

Connecting to a recording taken from your home security system is possible over the internet, but can it be done with an Android phone?

ActiveX add-on
ActiveX has plug-ins for Google but is a Microsoft technology

Q  I have a CCTV system in my home that records to a digital video recorder (DVR). The DVR has a facility that allows me to connect to it over the internet when I’m away but it seems I can only access the web address via Internet Explorer, as the system uses ActiveX controls.

Is there any way to access these to view my cameras via these ActiveX controls using my Android mobile phone? If this isn’t possible, can I change the software on the DVR so I can?
John Brown

A  The answer your first question is no. ActiveX is a proprietary Microsoft technology for running software components within Windows and Internet Explorer and, as such, is unlikely ever to be available on Android devices.

As for your second question, we don’t imagine it would be impossible to replace the DVR’s existing software with something else – probably from the open-source developer community – but in the absence of more information about the setup, we can offer no further help.

You can if you try...

Ok so here is a quick and dirty way to see your dvr. Im assuming your DVR runs windows. 1) you need to download and install splashtop Streamer on the PC. 2) Run the DVR software as normal 3) open internet explorer on the same pc. and connect as you would from any other pc. (this is important since the images from the dvr software are not generally transmitted when using splashtop or other Virtual viewers.) 4) install the splashtop viewer app on your phone.. And connect to your pc... it works outside your home network too...
