Rather than using the default search engines in Firefox, find out how you can tailor them to your requirements and use other search engines or sites such as Wikipedia
The search box in Firefox can be used with other search engines or sites such as Wikipedia. Several options are already installed with Firefox.
Click on the down arrow next to the Google icon and click on the Manage Search Engines option in the menu that appears. The default list shows available search engines. You cannot change the default search engine here but note which one you want to be the default.
Click in the Address bar, type about:config and press Enter. Click on the button ‘I’ll be careful, I promise!’ Click in the Filter box at the top and type browser.search.defaultenginename.
Right-click on the entry that remains and select Modify. Enter the name of the search engine you want to use in the box that appears and click OK. Now restart Firefox.
