Reverse red formatting in Excel

Format spreadsheets so you are alerted with red text when you go over budget

Reverse formatting
Custom formatting for cells in Microsoft Excel

I have a budget sheet in Microsoft Excel 2010 that should display text in red when the figure is positive and show normal formatting when the figure is negative. I only want to be alerted to being over budget. There is a custom formatting for showing negative figures in red: £#,##0;[Red]-£#,##0

The solution is to move the [Red] text to the beginning of the custom text entry. Select the cell to be formatted and press Control and 1 to show the formatting window. Make sure that the Number tab is selected and then click on Custom at the bottom of the Category and enter: [Red]£#,##;£#,##

Click OK to apply the change to the formatting.

This won’t show any pence information and will round the value to the nearest pound. To include pence when the figure is displayed, change formatting to: [Red]£#,##0.00;£#,##0.00Body
