The Windows 8 login screen

With Windows 8 installed the first thing that you'll see is the login screen. As this is based on a touch interface it looks a little different and Control, Alt and Delete is not required.

Instead, click and drag the mouse from the bottom of the screen to the top to reveal the list of users on the computer.

Click in the password box for your user account, enter your password and press Enter or click on the arrow icon. Windows will log you in and the Metro interface will appear.

Shutting the computer down is a little different as well. Click on your name at the top right-hand corner of the screen and click on Sign out in the menu that appears.

Windows will return to the login screen. Click and drag the screen up again but instead of clicking on a user account, click on the power icon at the bottom right. Click on Shut down. If update have been installed, you may also see an option to update and restart.
