Samsung-Napster YH-920 GS

Samsung and Napster join forces with an MP3 player that plays and records radio

The Samsung-Napster YH-920 GS is a compact digital audio player that can hold approximately 5,000 CD-quality songs on its 20Gb hard disk. We found it fairly easy to use, but not as intuitive as Apple's iPod, since its menu navigation buttons are on the face of the player and the playback buttons are located on the right hand side.

To its credit, the YH-920 GS can play a good variety of audio files including MP3 and WMA. It also has an FM radio tuner and a built-in sound encoder, so you can record songs directly from the radio, or from another audio source such as a CD player. It also features a built-in voice recorder, so you can use it as a dictation machine.

As part of the package, Samsung is offering a free two-month subscription to the Napster music download service. This lets you download and listen to songs on your PC and you will be able to listen to them on the portable device providing you have paid for the track.

Unfortunately the device is quite expensive - around £70 more than a 20Gb iPod. Some users may find its extra features invaluable, but we're not entirely convinced that this warrants the higher price.
