Twenty times the accuracy of an optical mouse but with irritating flaws
It seems that for every new mouse we see, a novel feature appears that will supposedly make our relationship with our computer better.
The trick up the Logitech MX1000 Laser's sleeve is increased pointing accuracy using a laser instead of an optical eye or trackball. It's also cordless and comes with it's own recharging dock, so you won't have to worry about replacing batteries.
To set it up, just install the software and plug the USB adapter into your PC and the mains adapter into the wall. The mouse is automatically recognised and starts working straight away.
As well as the 800dpi resolution (20 times more accurate than an optical mouse), it's laden with various buttons designed to make web browsing easier.
These include back and forward buttons and a super-scroll wheel for zooming up and down a web page or office document. There's also a switch that lets you flick between open applications, much like the Alt+Tab keyboard combination. All the buttons are customisable and work very well.
However, there are some issues with the MX1000. In small movements the mouse is undeniably accurate, but increase your hand speed and the pointer becomes less responsive and seems to stutter at times.
Also, it doesn't seem to fit perfectly on a flat surface, which is annoying rather than detrimental to its performance. It's also much heavier than a normal mouse.
There's a lot of good technology packed into this £60 mouse, but the negative points don't make it worth recommending.

Our verdict
The feature buttons and charger are great, but the movement is a bit disappointing
