Simple clear advice in plain English

Mustek DV2000

A cheap and cheerful digital video camera.

Digital camcorders offer much better video and sound quality than their analogue cousins but their price remains a barrier to many.

Enter the DV2000 from Mustek. Small enough to fit in a coat pocket, the DV2000 offers digital video, pictures and editing software for a bargain £119.

Two AA batteries provide power and the DV2000 connects via USB. There is no internal memory and Mustek provides a 16MB card, which is only capable of holding two minutes 45 seconds of video at the highest quality or 67 high-resolution photos.

A fold-out LCD panel allows you to see what you're filming but the image update is rather slow. The quality of the pictures and video is nothing to write home about and images at all quality levels tend to look rather blurred.

The video is only suitable for the internet as the maximum resolution is 320 x 240.

This is a fun gadget for someone who wants to capture some exciting moments where a more costly model would be too much of a risk.

A great camcorder for a night out but it's not for serious film-makers.
