Palm Tungsten T2

Palm upgrades its Tungsten T PDA.

While not quite the same spectacular reinvention as that other 'T2' from some time back, the Tungsten T2 is an obvious improvement on the original Tungsten T.

Apart from being silver rather than blue, the T2's metal exterior is identical to the T's, which is a good thing, in our opinion. The original Tungsten's design was stylish, innovative and sturdy, so we're glad Palm has kept it.

While the Tungsten T's screen was good, the cheaper Zire 71's was much better and now the same screen has been used on the T2. It has a resolution of 320 x 320 and is very crisp and clear. The whole screen can now be used for handwriting recognition too, which means you don't need to slide open the case to enter information.

On the inside, Palm has doubled the amount of memory to 32Mb but the processor hasn't changed from the Tungsten T. It's still more than adequate for any Palm-related task though. Bluetooth is also still included but we can't help feeling that the quicker, longer-range Wi-Fi is more useful on a handheld computer. For that though, you need to cough up for the more expensive Palm Tungsten C.

Overall: While not worth an upgrade from the Tungsten T, the T2 is still a great little handheld computer.
