Take the hassle out of home networking
Beginners to home networking who are uncomfortable adjusting wireless settings or people who struggle to get a strong wireless signal in their homes will find plenty of appeal in Powerline networking products, which use home mains wiring to create a wired network.
The Devolo Dlan 200 AVplus is one of the most impressive yet.
The main addition is a power socket on the back so you are not wasting a socket when using the adapters, making it even more convenient to connect and use. The starter kit on test comes with two adapters capable of transfer speeds up to 200Mbits/sec – more than fast enough to handle just about everything you can throw at it in the modern home.
Setup was as simple as plugging each adapter into a power socket and running network cables from one to the home router and from the other to any network-compatible device.
The adapters can create an encrypted connection to prevent data from being accessed by anyone else who has access to your power sockets and during our tests we were extremely impressed by their performance during high-demand data transfer.
There are cheaper products available and these rather bulky units do require a bit of space to connect, but in terms of ease of use and performance there is very little to criticise.

Internal mains wiring design
Hi, Like all houses my internal mains wiring goes back to a mains distrubution 'fuse box' My garage is on a different fuse than the one that looks after my study. Will the signal be able to 'jump' between fused circuiuts or do both ends have to be on the same fused circuit?

Internal Mains wiring
My office is in the garden about 25 metres from the router and I was using another router as a receiver. The adaptor is plugged in to the main house supply, the office is on a supply connected to the house switchboard with a long cable to the office. I then use a short extension from the plug in the office to the computer and the adaptor. It works a dream.
