Review: Ndrive G280R satellite navigation

Google Earth-style picture mapping at a good price

The Ndrive G280R has something most sat navs don’t.

As well as standard maps, it displays Google Earth-style satellite photos.

So, when driving, you can see exactly what you should be seeing around you, albeit in a flat, top-down form.

The maps, which are loaded onto a supplied memory card, take up a lot of space, so coverage is limited to the centres of cities and large towns.

Conventional maps cover the rest of the country when photos aren’t available, but it’s a shame the pictorial coverage isn’t wider.

Otherwise the G280R is a decent GPS device. The screen is a bit small and it’s not widescreen, which made it tricky to hit the correct option.

The voice is clear, as were the instructions, but some of the points of interest it pointed out were a few years out of date.

In addition to mapping the G280R has a good media player and a couple of games. Although it’s relatively expensive, the photo navigation makes it a good buy if you need the extra visual aid.
