Samsung 8GB SD PLUS Class 6 memory card

A memory card that can take a few knocks - and more

We do not often review memory cards. After all, there is not much to say about most of them as long as they don’t fall apart after a few months or mysteriously start deleting your pictures.

The Samsung SD PLUS range, though, is cleverly built, not just to store your pictures, but also to withstand shocks, water and even magnetic fields. The first two are very useful – after all, you don’t want all your beach-holiday snaps to be ruined by an accidental dip in the sea.

A standard memory card will probably withstand being dropped in water – there are no moving parts to damage – as long as it has dried before being used next, but the Samsung card will most likely last longer afterwards.

Likewise small knocks and drops will not affect most memory cards, but the part-metallic casing of the Samsung card indicates good build quality. It’s fast too. The Class 6 name indicates fast transfer speeds.

Samsung offers a 10-year warranty on its cards. The recommended price is fairly high and even though it’s available for £18 online, that is still a little more expensive than a normal 8GB SD memory card. But it’s worth it to get a card that’s built to last.
