A compact multifunction device
As far as multifunction devices go, the Brother DCP-310CN is a particularly compact model. Some flimsy components, such as the paper tray, don't give a great first impression, but it does offer colour printing, scanning, photocopying and the ability to print direct from a range of memory cards.
Quality-wise, we've seen clearer text and the colour prints can't match that of devoted photo printers, but for the average home user it's fine. Print speeds weren't bad: it took just over three minutes to produce a colour A4 photo, while five pages of text took 1 minute 35 seconds.
Networking isn't usually available on inkjet printers at this price, but the DCP-310CN has an Ethernet port alongside the USB socket. Another plus point is that it uses four separate ink cartridges.
At just £120, the DCP-310CN has a lot going for it, even if the photo quality isn't perfect.
