A good introduction to the world of science
This CD-Rom is aimed at children aged eight and older. It contains a selection of science-based experiments and covers questions such as 'how do fish breathe?' or 'why does my bike get rusty in the rain?'.
Despite appearing simple, Smart Kids provides a good introductions to the scientific stalwarts such as gravity, Archimedes's principles, air resistance, fluid mechanics, and their applications in everyday life.
Unlike other learning titles, Smart Kids lets kids progress through various tasks without needing to answer questions correctly first. Instead, they can make mistakes as often as they like.
The content is arranged into five paths, each of which is accompanied by five Smart Kids. These guides provide a diversion from the main content and accompany the kids through the various adventures. A sixth Smart Kid (or Super Smart Kid) advises the kids as they progress.
As experiments are worked through, children can save their progress, make notes or print each one to try it out in the real world.
While the menu system is a little puzzling at times, the content is excellent and does a good job of presenting what can be a dull subject.
