Review: ViaMichelin X-950T satellite navigation

What it lacks in maps, the X-950T makes up for with free traffic alerts

As a useful bonus, ViaMichelin’s X-950T fleshes out the usual POI feature with helpful content from the Michelin guides, including hotel and restaurant information for many towns and cities.

The stylish, lightweight unit might not come with much in the way of maps, but features plenty of added value in the shape of free traffic alerts.

The X-950T uses the Traffic Message Channel service to receive relevant traffic information over FM radio and it’s necessary to wrangle the antenna cable provided, attaching it to your windscreen using a little suction pad.

We were impressed with much of the X-950T’s operation. It provided us with easy-to-follow, accurate directions to our test destinations.

Our only reservations were that some of the onscreen buttons were a little small to press with stubby fingers (a stylus is provided), while the lack of a full postcode search lets the side down considerably.

This article is part of a group test of satellite-navigation devices.
