CorelDraw Graphics Suite 12

Corel Graphics Suite 12 provides a versatile package of three applications that deal with most image creation and manipulation needs. CorelDraw caters for graphics, illustrations and page layouts, Corel R.A.V.E allows the creation of moving graphics, while Corel Photo-Paint handles photo editing.

The most specific improvements in version 12 relate to the suite's drawing capabilities. The new Smart Drawing Tool means CorelDraw will automatically smooth your attempts at drawing circles, triangles and more, which ultimately saves time and effort. Another useful new feature is the Dynamic Guides function. Without delving too deeply in techno babble, it makes aligning text and shapes far easier and allows for a greater amount of flexibility in your designs.

The main addition to Photo-Paint is the vastly improved touch-up tool. This allows you to make minute changes such as red-eye correction and skin blemish removal. This comes in very handy, particularly for photo enthusiasts, or those wishing to make digital improvements to their favourite snaps.

Perhaps the main benefit of Corel Graphics Suite 12 is its affordability in comparison to other leading packages. The standard version of Adobe Creative Suite (its main rival) currently retails for around £800, while this impressive equivalent is around half that price.

Version 12 does not offer enough reason to upgrade if you own the previous edition. Improvements to the other areas of the suite, such as R.A.V.E, the animation module, are minor. However, there is plenty of incentive to buy if you are a new adopter and can justify the hefty price tag. Corel Graphics Suite 12 should satisfy all of your imaging needs.
