Simple and small power-line network kit
This power line networking kit from D-Link allows users to connect computers and other devices in their homes without using a conventional wired network, or a wireless network.
Instead, plug one of these into a mains outlet near your router and the other into a mains outlet in another room, attach the supplied network cables to both and you have an instant network connection anywhere in the house.
The units look good, finished in pure white, and are smaller than most we have seen.
Unlike recent Devolo models, though, they don’t have a mains socket on the back so you effectively lose an extra mains socket for every device you connect to your network.
It was easy to set up, and speeds were good. A supplied CD includes utilities to check performance and set up security so no-one else can plug into your network, though you can also do this by pressing the button on each of the supplied devices.
Note that there are two competing power line networking standards, and this product uses Homeplug technology.
There is no real difference but if you already have power line products that use the competing DS2 standard they won’t be compatible with the DHP-307AV.
