A digital video camera at only £100.
Last year's virulent outbreak of small sub-£100 digital cameras seems to be subsiding, but only because a new breed of small, sub-£100 digital video cameras seem to be taking their place. The SiPix StyleCam DV100 is the latest and we doubt it will be the last.
Like similar models from other manufacturers, the DV100 is styled more like a digital camcorder than a camera. The flat, square case has the lens at one end, buttons at the other and a colour screen that folds out on a hinge from one side. Unlike a digital camcorder, the DV100 is only about three inches square and just over an inch thick. It's not the smallest camera of this type that we've seen but it's still small enough to slip in a pocket.
The DV100 has 8Mb of built-in memory that can hold 14 images or 40 seconds of video at the highest 1280 x 1024 resolution but there's an SD Card slot for memory expansion. Unfortunately, even at the highest resolution, both still and video image quality is rather grainy and better results can be had from other similarly priced digital cameras. Worse still, while most of the buttons fall comfortably under the thumb of the hand that holds the camera, the button that takes a picture is on the side, where even the nimblest of fingers struggle to reach it.

Our verdict
Overall: The DV100 works well enough but it's unremarkable in all respects.
