A tiny but useful storage device
The Freecom Databar XXS is a USB memory key that is considerably smaller than most.
It measures just 3x1.2cm and despite that, models are available that can hold up to 32GB of data.
We took a look at the 2GB version, which does everything you would expect from a USB memory key. File transfer speeds were exactly what we would expect from a USB2 device at around 1GB per minute, and our main problem was that it was initially unclear which way round it went into the computer’s USB port.
The Databar XXS is nicely designed, with a shiny white finish and neat attachment to that allows it on to a keyring. It fitted comfortably onto a bunch of keys without adding much extra bulk.
Our chief concern about a product such as this is that being so small, it is quite easy to lose. This one, however, turned out to be surprisingly sturdy.
Our attempts to break it by simulating everyday drops and knocks proved fruitless and it didn’t get scratched when added to a bunch of keys.
