Trust HS-B200 Bluetooth Car Kit LCD

Make phone calls in the car with this Bluetooth hands-free kit

Instead of having to wear a Bluetooth in-ear headset, or having to get your car's sound system rewired, you can opt to use a Bluetooth hands-free kit.

Trust's HS-8200 is just such a device. It plugs in to a car's cigarette lighter socket and connects to a mobile phone via Bluetooth (so, obviously, the phone has to be Bluetooth-compatible).

Unlike many Bluetooth devices we've looked at, this one was extremely easy to set up, connecting first time to the phone having made use of the clear instructions in the supplied manual.

Call quality is very good, however, and our test calls came in loud and clear. It supports voice dialling providing this service is available on the handset, or you can stop the car and dial on the phone and the car kit will take the call from there.

Taking calls is also a simple matter of pressing the call button on the unit. The screen displays the number dialled and the incoming call. The kit comes with a pad that glues itself to your dashboard and attaches to the unit using Velcro. It's not possible to easily remove the pad.

Our only minor problem was connecting the power adapter to the cigarette lighter socket. It's quite a tight fit and didn't attach itself properly on our first attempt so, slightly worryingly, the device wouldn't power up at all. After another try and firmly pushing the plug into the socket, though, it worked fine.

Although it is not a major issue, this kit has no other external power connections and can only be powered by the car, so you won't be able to use it anywhere else, unlike normal headsets.
