Turn scanned documents into editable documents, read pdfs and more with this software.
Optical character recognition (OCR) software has had I.R.I.S scanning technology at its heart for many years but Readiris is still largely unknown to most.
Readiris Pro 9 can transfer scanned documents into editable text files. It can also read PDF files, extract both text and images and dump them into a word processor, such as Microsoft Word.
The main screen has been redesigned to help new users get started straight away. On the left are the scanning and recognition options. Here you choose the source or open a document. The chosen file is opened in the main portion of the screen where you can then ask Readiris to automatically analyse the whole page or select text and image zones to be recognised. Once examined, the document can be inserted into a word processor for editing or saved in most text formats. Smart buttons on the right of the screen allow you to straighten and rotate the page and zoom in.
Our tests found Readiris to be quick and extremely competent. You can even teach it unrecognised letters by manually adding them to its dictionary. It's more expensive than ABBYY FineReader OCR but will do the job better and more easily.
