Simple clear advice in plain English

Sharp GX20

Send video messages with this Sharp mobile phone.

Last year Sharp went from zero to hero in the mobile phone market with its David Beckham-approved GX10 camera phone. Now the handset, available exclusively through Vodafone, is on its third revision and is in the running to be the best-selling camera phone this Christmas.

The styling of the phone is similar to its predecessors and it's not until you flip the clamshell handset open that the key enhancement becomes apparent. The main screen, with its 240 x 320 pixels and 65,536 colours, really is something else, delivering clearer, higher resolution images than rival handsets.

Sharp has also improved the quality of the images that the GX20 can snap. It now takes pictures at a resolution of 640 x 480, bringing it in line with high-end phones like the Sony Ericsson P800.

Another tweak is the introduction of video capture and playback - though annoyingly you can only send video messages to other Sharp GX20 owners. It's also tri-band for use in the USA.

There are plenty of other features Sharp could have added - a flash, Bluetooth and more storage - but the superb screen and the additional features should ensure the GX20 is just as popular as its predecessors.
