No-frills printing and scanning
Epson’s Stylus SX215 is the smaller brother of the SX415 that we reviewed recently. Like that product, this one offers printing, scanning and copying, and it has a small screen at the front that can be used to view images if you’re printing directly from a memory card.
It was easy to set up and install, with four separate ink cartridges included in the box (replacements cost £10 each). While the SX415 can print directly from a camera plugged into its USB port, the SX215 lacks that feature and has a smaller screen (3in as opposed to 6in).
Text results were good in best quality but less so in the other modes, while photo reproduction was better all round. Scans were likewise impressive and it made quick copies.
At the time of writing both the SX215 and the better SX415 are available at a discout from Epson's website – the SX215 is on sale at £60, a price that makes it a bargain. At the more expensive recommended price it is merely decent value.

The Epson Stylus SX 251 is rubbish!
I was "given" an Epson Stylus SX 215 by my bank, so money is not my gripe. I have had it for about two years and am going to give it to my son (poor kid). It has given me nothing but trouble. It is unreliable, prints out of line, there is ZERO customer report, the ink cartridges cost an arm and a leg and last next to no time, there is no instruction manual (print your own, but of course you won’t be able to if it isn’t working) to consult. A simple job like changing the cartridges turns into a massive headache. Do yourself a favour, get another type of printer.
