Ring Automotive FM E:Can+

Power any gadget from your car

ring-automotive-fm-e-can

The FM E:Can+ (model number RINVCFM150) is a power ‘inverter’ for your car: it plugs into the 12v socket (or the cigarette lighter socket on older cars) and has a standard 240v mains socket on its top, into which you can plug anything.

The can-shaped device increases the voltage from the 12v supplied by the socket to the 240v a mains device will expect. Anything you plug in will drain the car’s battery, so it’s not a good idea to use it unless the car’s engine is running (in which case the battery will be charging).

It’s also not a good idea to use it with a high-drain device such as a kettle or heater. But if you need to plug in a TV, radio or laptop it will work well.

As well as converting mains power, there is a USB socket into which you can plug a music player, camera or phone for charging. Finally, it has an FM radio transmitter and an audio input (a standard headphone socket, cable supplied) so you can play music off those devices too.

Few people will need to run mains devices from their cars, but those who do will find that the FM E:Can+ does the job well.

I think you marked this device rather highly. There are cheaper options that do the same and there are cheaper options that do more. £40 will buy a similar product that will supply two AC sockets, running directly off the battery [or alternatively from the 12V socket at a lower wattage] at 500W. This product should be marked down to 3 stars as it doesn?t compare well with the overall maket
