An external CD-RW with an added card reader.
The CD-RW Plus is an external, recordable CD combination drive with a built-in seven-in-1 multimedia card reader. This is a nice addition for digital camera enthusiasts who need to transfer images from memory cards to PC.
The device is fairly easy to use. Memory cards are recognised as new drives and, thanks to the bundled Iomega Burn Pro software, you can start creating CDs straight away. The CD-RW Plus can also play DVDs.
Unfortunately, connecting the device to your PC can be a bit of a nuisance. Unlike normal drives of this type, the CD-RW Plus must be connected to the mains as well as to your PC via two separate USB cables - one for CD data, one for memory card data.
This is a very inelegant product. We've come across similar devices, such as the DigiMagic DM220, which can be powered by batteries, connected without a second USB cable, and copy files from memory cards to a CD without being connected to a PC.
But if you can overlook the fact that it appears to be two devices lumped together without much apparent forethought, and you can sacrifice two USB slots, the CD-RW Plus serves its intended purpose well.

Our verdict
A good idea in principle, but poor design hinders its appeal.
