Panda Platinum Internet Security 2005

A complete set of internet security tools updated for the new year

Panda's flagship product, Platinum Internet Security 2005, is an antivirus program, firewall, spam killer and spyware remover rolled into one application.

The firewall configures itself automatically, choosing which programs should be allowed access to the internet. If a protected program tries to access the internet, a message will pop up asking whether to change its permissions or keep blocking it.

By opening up the Internet Security console, you can also view the activity on the network to see what your PC is up to online.

The antivirus and spam protection also configures itself, with the spam killer attaching itself to Outlook automatically. It turned out to be a little over-zealous, however, deleting marketing messages from Amazon, among others, but you can recover these from Outlook's Spam folder.

The virus scanner is also simple to use, with a scan just two clicks away from the main console, and can be set to run automatically at certain times.

Internet Security 2005 is well balanced between ease of use and customisability. It comes with six months' free cover, after which you will need to renew it at £45 a year to continue receiving updates to the virus scanner.
