A new graphics card from ASUS but is it any different from other cards on the market?
After a slow start, graphics cards based on nVidia's GeForce FX range have been arriving thick and fast. The 128Mb V9560 VS from ASUS is the latest card to hit the streets. It is based on the GeForce FX 5600, which places it in the middle of nVidia's range.
Cards of this ilk are good for gamers who want a good quality gaming experience but don't feel the need to splash out the £400 or so for the current top-of-the-range cards.
That's not to say that its performance is anything to be ashamed of. While this card tested marginally slower than competing GeForce 5600 cards, it still delivers high-quality visuals smoothly.
The V9650 is also DirectX 9 compatible, which gives it a degree of future proofing.Games that need this are just starting to emerge and should run better on a compatible card.
The V9560 is polished off with two DVI connectors, although ASUS provides VGA converters for traditional monitors, and a TV-out connector. This can also be used for capturing video and along with the provided software, for turning your PC into a digital video recorder. This is just what we'd expect from a graphics card of this type and there's nothing to give it a competitive edge.
