Software to automate regular back-ups for your PC.
The only thing more annoying than a broken PC is a broken PC that's also taken all your documents and photos with it.
Computers aren't always the most reliable of beasts so, as boring as it is, every PC owner should make regular back-ups to protect themselves.
This can be done manually by copying files to a spare CD-R, but it's easy to forget to do it and lose more data than necessary, due to a tardy back-up schedule. Orlogix's BackUp MyPC is designed to automate regular back-ups.
It comes with a huge range of options but, if anything, this just makes it more confusing to deal with. We feel the software has all the hallmarks of a product designed for business rather than home users.
There are wizards for the most common tasks but even these aren't very easy to get to grips with.
Once you have jobs in place, though, the software runs itself. As you can have multiple jobs, it's no problem to get your entire PC backed up once a month and important documents on a weekly basis.
At £60 this is probably a bit more than most people's budgets and certainly dearer than remembering to back up manually once in a while.
