Back up files to an iPod or hard disk

The Transformer SE is a small cable that plugs into your computer’s USB socket and is used to perform a backup.

It has another USB port on the other end, into which you can plug either an external hard disk, a USB memory key or an iPod (you do need your iPod-to-USB cable, though, as one is not supplied).

There is backup software built into the cable, which runs as soon as it’s plugged in. It’s colourful and bright, with clear icons and menu options that indicate what needs to be done.

The copying process was painless, with the software directing us every step of the way. It was quick, too, taking only about ten minutes to complete the process of copying 2GB of data. It is also possible to customise what files are or aren’t included in the backup.

It uses the spare space on any iPod, or on any hard disk or USB key, and can also – cleverly – copy music files from your iPod to the PC. Even more usefully, the device is not limited to a single computer - you can use it on more than one computer in the home.

It’s possible to buy cheaper backup programs, but the Clickfree Transformer SE automates the process so well that it’s easy to recommend.
