Review: Magix Movie Edit Pro 10 Plus video-editing software

Editing home video on a computer is still big business and there's little that comes as feature-packed for the money as Magix Movie Edit Pro 10 Plus.

This Plus edition is a more advanced than something like Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 5, and has a staggering wealth of tools and features.

In principle the concepts are the same; the importing, editing and exporting of digital video. But the sheer volume of options available means this package is wasted on beginners.

It includes nine separate programs for editing and managing audio, video and images for use in your projects. As for the main program, all possible media formats are supported, including high definition, while exporting options include double-layer DVDs.

Video effects are numerous and highly customisable, leaving it up to you to decide how much time to spend on editing a movie rather than forced to invest hours of work. Even effects such as blue-screen work and key frame animation are on hand for video-editing enthusiasts.

Completing a breathtaking set of tools are two bonus discs containing a huge array of royalty-free video and music clips and still images, automated transitions and other effects.

As expected, learning how to use Movie Edit Pro will be difficult for novices. A printed manual is of some help­ and we particularly liked the 15 pages of movie-making tips at the end, ­but it only scratches the surface of the features that are on offer.
