SpyCatcher is another product that can rid your PC of spyware and adware and protect it from various kinds of online threat.

Upon installation, the product is registered over the internet and you are then given the option to update the program's spyware definitions.

The spyware scanner picks up all kinds of nasty programs that might be hiding on your PC, and a 'reinstall shield' claims to prevent spyware from reinstalling itself by overwriting the spyware program itself.

It did work but spyware makers are notoriously inventive, so this protection may not last.

It does come with protection from phishing, listing various types of scam. Although these are limited to US sites at the moment, updates could include British banks and companies.

The Detective section is also useful, listing what's being done in various parts of your PC, offering more information, or stopping them from running. Finally, the Protector offers tweaks that will block spyware in the first place.

Overall, you may get lost as there are no wizards to guide you, although the printed manual does include a good walk-through.
