Biology for ages 11-14 Key Stage 3

This CD-ROM comprises three discs which cover the main topics featured in the National Curriculum for biology at Key Stage 3. The first two CD-ROMs provide instruction on a number of themes, such as circulation, plant biology and respiration. The third disc features a range of light-hearted revision games, designed to consolidate the information you have already learned.

The tutorials featured in the two instruction discs have been well thought out, with text, graphics and audio narration bringing the subject to life.

Navigation tabs at the right-hand side of the screen let you proceed at your own pace or go back a stage to recap. Highlighted words in the explanatory text let you jump to an explanation of a particular term or theme.

In the human biology section, footage of a dissection is displayed next to the main image, offering a clearer understanding of the way the lungs connect to other parts of the body. Once you complete certain sections, there is the chance to watch a simulated experiment related to the topic or complete a quick revision exercise.

While older children are likely to find the printable 'diplomas' a little naff, the exercises are nonetheless a useful aid to learning.

A password-protected parents section explains the content and the purpose of the exercises contained in this educational program, so you can keep up to date with your children's learning.
