CTX P972L

A stylish 19in TFT monitor that offers good value for money

The CTX P972L is one of the most stylish 19in TFT monitors we've seen thanks to its thin bezel and metallic crescent-shaped base.

Like all 19in models, it works best at its native screen resolution of 1,280 x 1,024. This is the same as most 17in TFT screens, so despite the larger screen area you won't be able to fit more windows on your desktop. Fortunately, the extra two inches allows you slightly more viewing area for watching DVD movies or games.

Video playback was very good. Some TFT monitors have trouble displaying dark colours (they can often look faded), but the P972L did a commendable job. Likewise, bright tones weren't overly harsh, and image remained consistently accurate. This is largely due to the digital DVI input (VGA is also included).

One of the P972L's best features is its swivel option, which lets you twist the screen 90 degrees and even use it in a portrait orientation. This can be useful when viewing long documents or web pages that require a lot of vertical scrolling. Unfortunately, the software that enables this isn't included. It costs around £17, which we think is pretty mean.

The best thing about the P972L is its price. AT £323, it is fantastic value for money, and the cheapest 19in TFT we've reviewed.
