Protect your property using your phone
Tenbu’s Nio 2.0 fob alarm makes clever use of the Bluetooth wireless feature of mobile phones to sense when a thief is at work.
It has two parts: software for the phone and a Bluetooth fob that can be attached to a keyring or to a second device you wish to protect. You can presumably also tie it to a child to prevent straying.
The software uses the phone’s Bluetooth signal strength to estimate the distance between the phone and the fob and triggers an alarm on both when the set limit is exceeded.
You can set one of three trigger distances up to a maximum 25 metres, so the alarm can sound quickly in crowds or at a longer range in the home, reducing accidental triggering.
Different settings can be scheduled for different times of day, so you could set the Nio to short range when you travel to work. Another feature helps you locate a mislaid device and your phone can keep track of several Nio tabs at once.
All major Bluetooth-compatible handsets are supported except the iPhone.
