Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 Ultra

Play back DVD and Blu-ray discs – now in 3D as well

screenshot-of-cyberlink-powerdvd-10-ultra

The latest version of Cyberlink’s PowerDVD software touts several improvements on the previous version, chief among them being that it supports playback in 3D from Blu-ray discs.

That’s not much use at the moment, as 3D equipment and films are few and far between. But for those that have the goods, it’s important. As ever there are three versions of the software, with only the most expensive Ultra having the 3D support.

Features common to all versions include tweaks to the playback quality to take advantage of processor technology improvements, and a simulated surround-sound mode for music playback. It also supports more file formats including the increasingly common MKV used for high-definition video on the internet.

Only the Ultra version of PowerDVD 10 supports Blu-ray playback, and if you need to play Blu-ray discs, it’s a good choice. The standard version at £40 offers some advantages to those watching DVDs but it’s hard to recommend it, what with free alternatives offering almost as good a viewing experience.
