Convert your handwriting into digital text
The Logitech io Pen looks like an oversized biro. While it writes like a normal pen, a tiny built-in scanner records your handwriting, which can then be uploaded to a computer.
The pen is quite large but comfortable to use. Installing the software is simple but there is a lengthy handwriting recognition process to endure before the pen can distinguish your jottings.
For the io Pen to work successfully you must write on special paper. As well as Post-it notes, Logitech supplies an A4 pad, which has special sections for tasks and calendar entries, which will synchronise with Outlook.
Docking the pen in its cradle will import any written text to your PC. Here you can save it as an image file or use OCR software to convert your notes into editable text. The pen has enough memory for around 40 pages of text, but the battery only lasts for around 25 pages before needing a recharge.
One small quibble is the carriage return added to the end of each line by default, which is frustrating when imported into Word. The special paper is very expensive at £5 per 80-page pad.
It's a nice tool for business types but a luxurious gadget for most.

Easy to use and well designed but too expensive for the casual user
