Review: Genius Colourpage Slim 1200 USB2 scanner

It may not be fast but it'll squeeze into tight spots and produce great scans

The Colourpage Slim 1200 USB2 is a slim flatbed scanner that can stand vertically or horizontally and is USB-powered.

It comes with an excellent software bundle including a photo manager and ABBYY’s Fine Reader optical character recognition (OCR) software, making it fully equipped for scanning both photographs and documents.

The five touch buttons along the front of the Genius Colourpage Slim 1200 USB2 can be used to start scanning, filing, printing, copying or loading documents into an email program.

With all the software that's included, the 10 minutes it took to install both the scanner and software can be excused. However, the slow scan time is something that cannot - it took just over eight minutes to complete a full-colour, full-resolution scan - and there was quite a noise being made by the printer while it was in operation.

The scans themselves are clear, however. A scanned photograph came out vibrant and colourful when scanned at the device’s maximum optical resolution of 1,200 x 2,400dpi. Scanned text documents (up to A4 size) are perfectly legible as well.

In all, a versatile scanner but multi-function devices can be picked up for the same price.

Vista compatible: Yes
