Simulate cinematic sound in your living room.
Creative's new DDTS -100 decoder is a clever little device that will keep you up to date with the latest in audio standards. It's compatible with all the usual suspects (DTS, Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II), plus some newcomers.
DTS-EX - Digital Theater Sound-Extended Surround - is designed for use with 6.1 and 7.1 speaker systems and gives a full 360-degree surround-sound effect when watching DVD movies, which is very impressive. There's also Neo-6, which converts regular stereo signals into psuedo surround sound.
The DDTS-100 can be connected to other surround-sound-enabled devices, such as games consoles and DVD players. On the back are three optical sockets, a coaxial port and three stereo inputs. All in all, the DDTS-100 can connect to seven audio devices at once.
There's a remote control for switching between input sources and audio modes and two headphone sockets on the front so you can watch movies or play games without waking the kids.
If you've already got a 5.1 speaker system and decoder, it's probably not worth the extra expense. But for those with six- or seven-speaker systems, the DDTS-100 will get the most out of them.
