BenQ FP937s

A sturdy 19in flat screen, but with little in the way of extras

benq-fp937s

This 19in flat screen from BenQ could probably best be described as 'no-frills'. While this correctly suggests that it has little to distinguish it in terms of design or added extras, it doesn't disappoint when it comes to displaying images.

The colour balance is very good, even through the VGA connection, and if your PC has a DVI connection, so much the better, as the colour response is slightly better still.

It is very sharp even on the inferior VGA connection at its standard resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels.

At lower resolutions, like all TFT screens, the image is blurred and slightly distorted, but these screens are designed to be used only at the default resolution, except for games, when the moving images mean that users won't notice the image distortion.

The only socket on the back, apart from VGA and DVI, is the power connector, and there are six buttons on the front: four for controlling the on-screen menu and power, and a one-touch auto-adjustment button which works well.

The design is not particularly interesting, being a simple brushed-grey case, and the base can be tilted back and forth, but not swivelled from side to side. Although at 7.4kg it's not particularly light, manoeuvring it into place is not difficult. It also comes with a three-year warranty.

This is one of the cheapest 19in screens around, and it's a good choice for anyone after good quality on a budget.
