Amacom DVD-M4 UF DiViD Burner

Fitting this external DVD drive should be a simple matter.

Adding or replacing drives in your PC isn't that difficult but for many, taking a screwdriver to £1000-worth of personal computer is not on the agenda. Amacom's DiViD Burner is an external recordable DVD drive; fitting it is a simple matter of connecting it to a vacant USB 2 or FireWire port on your computer and installing the software.

Amacom provides six software applications to help you get the most from your new device. Four are from Pinnacle, while WinDVD4 is ideal for playing movies and DVDXCopy is for backing up your discs. Two blank DVDs and two blank CDs are also included, so you can start using it as soon as you get home.

The DiViD is fairly bulky. It has audio outputs on the back for music playback, but, other than that, it's just a regular recordable DVD drive mounted in a box, so it can be used externally. It supports DVD+/-, R/RW formats as well as regular CD-R and CD-RW discs.

Amacom reckons any PC with a 700MHz processor or better will work fine, although the more power you have, the higher your success rate will be.
