Inksaver 2

Inksaver 2 is designed to help control the amount of ink used in every print job, thus saving money. Using the software is extremely straightforward. A sliding bar allows you to reduce the amount of ink used, and you can see how much money is expected to be saved based on the cost of your particular ink cartridges.

In our tests, Inksaver 2 worked commendably. With maximum savings applied (and less ink used), the quality of black text was very good, although not quite suitable for use in official documents.

We were generally happy with black text at the 50 per cent savings setting, as documents produced in this way were indistinguishable from those produced under the 'normal' print-quality setting in our word processor. With our test printer, a Canon i250, Inksaver claimed we could save around £80 per year.

Printing in draft mode is equivalent to the 20-30 per cent savings setting in Inksaver. Draft mode can reduce the resolution of your print jobs, but this is only very noticeable in images and text at low point sizes.

Inksaver is a useful product, but it is difficult to recommend since most modern printers already include software that lets you to customise the quality of your print jobs.
