Kodak Printer Dock 6000

About the size and shape of a plastic sandwich box, the Printer Dock 6000 is a dedicated photo printer that works with any of Kodak's EasyShare 6000 series digital cameras.

The camera docks on top of the printer (and recharges while it's there) and images are displayed on the camera's screen.

Like the Kodak's DX6340 camera we tested it with (see issue 140), the Printer Dock is about as easy to use as it could be - simply find the picture you want on the camera and press the print button on the printer.

The printer uses 6x4in glossy photo paper that loads into a tray at the front and prints using a dye sublimation process, courtesy of a cassette which slots into a hole at the side. Replacement cassettes come with 40 sheets of paper and cost £20, giving a cost per page of 50p, which compares favourably to an inkjet printer.

Unfortunately, print quality doesn't and the prints have a distinct 'digital photo' quality that has plagued printers of this type ever since they appeared several years ago. You'll get far superior results with a good colour inkjet printer and you'll save a significant sum of money too.
