Review: Sony SMU-M10 Travel Mouse

Travel mice get even smaller

image-sony-smu-m10

Travel mice are a strange breed - they have to be small enough to be easily portable, but as decently sized as to be usable for reasonably long periods of time.

Sony's new travel mouse, the SMU-M10, is certainly the former, being distinctly smaller than most mice, but its square looks give the impression that it won't be very comfortable.

In fact, it's quite pleasant to use. While it's not ideal for more than a few minutes at a time, the mouse's body is well rounded at the corners, which means it sits well in the palm of the hand, and is more than adequate for occasional use. That's all most people will be using it for, after all. And it's streets ahead of the trackpads that come with most notebook computers.

There are no frills, however – just the basic two buttons and a centre scroll wheel, but, again, that will be enough for most users. Despite the unorthodox looks, as a travel mouse, the SMU-M10 certainly works and is small enough to fit in any case or notebook bag.
