A program aimed primarily at A-level students studying the weather.
The weather is not only responsible for conversational inanities along the lines of "Nice day for it". Without the atmosphere and weather, we wouldn't be here, as surely as if there wasn't the earth beneath our feet. Understanding Weather is devoted to learning about this single and important aspect of geography.
This program is loosely aimed at A-level students and anyone interested in learning more about weather systems, as the information imparted is general and not targeted to any specific syllabus. This doesn't lessen its impact to the student, however, as it's a great background tool to a number of weather-related subjects. The fact that it dates back to 1997 doesn't matter too much either, as most of the details are not time specific.
Understanding Weather presents 13 modules that study the atmosphere, atmospheric moisture and motion, weather systems and changes, pressure, winds, tropical storms and many more aspects of the topic. Each module is headed by a short video introduction, followed by a detailed commentary to explain the issue in depth, accompanied by various diagrams and photographs.
After absorbing the commentary, you're free to access two further menu items entitled Investigate and Study. The former consists of a small number of multiple-choice tests, which are fully marked and scored, along with some old example exam questions for A-level students to tackle.
The Study section considers real-life aspects of each weather phenomenon. For example, when examining weather fronts, you're presented with a study of India's tropical monsoon, complete with diagrams, pictures and a detailed text-based breakdown of the whole process.
It's worth noting that the price doubles for single-user licence at a school.
