A cheap backup solution
Backing up data on your PC should be a regular process, and having decent software to do it with is important. BackUp MyPC provides one-click options for backing up and restoring files and folders.
You can back up system files, programs and all documents and settings at scheduled times. Backup MyPC can spread backups over 32 CDs or DVDs, which equates to around 272Gb if you use dual-layer DVDs. This will be ample for most users.
It compresses files as it backs them up, so our 21Gb test file became 15Gb. This took around an hour and a half but only files that have changed since the last archive are copied, so future backups will be quicker.
There's a wizard to help recover data from a crash but you will need a copy of XP or the recovery CD provided by the PC's maker and a floppy disk drive.
Cheap and easy to use but dependent on a few things for disaster recovery
Twitter is great on smartphones, but awful on Windows Phone 7
Voice over IP. The routing of voice conversations over the internet, which is cheaper than the telephone...
