A wirless keyboard and optical mouse from Gyration.
While cordless mice and keyboards have undoubtedly reduced desktop cable clutter, the Gyration suite takes this freedom a stage further by liberating the mouse from the desk entirely if you wish.
As a standard optical mouse, it's comfortable to use, with oversized buttons and a scroll wheel. But pick it up while holding down a button on its underside and its gyroscopic motion sensor will allow mouse commands to be performed in mid-air. It feels strange at first but quickly becomes second nature and allows for much more relaxed usage.
In airborne mode, it can be tricky to control the mouse accurately enough for precision work, but for general web surfing and remote control of home entertainment PCs, it works splendidly. You can forget about batteries too, as the supplied cradle will recharge the mouse.
Unfortunately, the keyboard looks like it's been taken from a notebook and has a basic selection of multimedia keys. Those used to standard keys and a numeric keypad may find it restrictive. If you'd rather stick with your own keyboard, the mouse is available separately for £80.

Our verdict
Overall: An innovatively designed mouse but a disappointing keyboard.
