Palm Tungsten E

Another great value PDA from Palm.

You may have previously read our reviews of the high-end Palm Tungsten T3, now it's the turn of the low-end Tungsten E. We say low-end, but the Tungsten E's £149 price tag belies its specification and like the Tungsten T3, it represents great value.

The slim and slender case looks great and the simple flip-over screen protector is a welcome addition. Equally welcome is the SD Card slot but while there's a headphone socket for listening to MP3s, there's no Bluetooth or microphone for voice recording. The 320 x 320 colour screen is the same great one used on the Tungsten T2 and there's a generous 32Mb of memory.

Palm provides a mini-USB connector rather than the standard Palm interface for plugging the Tungsten E into a computer, citing cost as the reason. This means you can't make use of any Palm peripherals that need the standard interface but that's a small complaint given the Tungsten E's price. Cost is also the reason you don't get a docking cradle. However, this does mean that you can plug the supplied mains charger straight into the handheld when travelling, rather than having to drag the cradle around, as with other Palm models.
