Capture video and save it to your hard disk
This is an update to the ConvertX PX-M402U that we reviewed earlier in the year, and is a USB plug-in box that will capture video from a source such as a video camera or video recorder and save it to your PC's hard disk in digital form.
The ConvertX PVR has a TV tuner built in which means that, in addition to letting you plug in a source and copy the video to your PC, you can now use the device on its own to capture TV shows.
Capture quality is good, and it can record in all MPEG formats and DivX. MPEG2 gives even better quality, but at the cost of DVD-sized files. Obviously capture quality depends on the quality of the source material, so copying from an old VHS tape will never give brilliant results.
Using the supplied and straightforward Intervideo WinDVR you can perform timed recordings and pause live broadcasts to watch later. It also comes with WinDVD Creator and Plextor's burning software for creating discs, plus a remote control.

Our verdict
It's a great idea and it works well, although it's a little expensive
